लॉकडाउन ने किया प्रतिभा के भविष्य को लॉक- Lockdown locked Pratibha's future
कलम चलने वाले हाथों में मेहँदी न लगाओ
सपने देखने वाले आँखों पर पर्दा न लगाओ
हम लड़की के रूप में इन्सान ही तो है
परिंदे नहीं”हमारे रास्तों में जाल न बिछाओ
कहानी सब की अपनी-अपनी होती है। उस कहानी में उसे सफलता मिली हो या नहीं, पर संघर्ष और चुनौतियाँ हमें ज़िंदगी के बारे में बताती हैं। हर इंसान की कहानी अलग होती है। वो और अलग हो जाती है जब वो कहानी एक लड़की या औरत की हो। हाँ तो अब आइए कुछ ऐसी ही अलग कहानी सुनते हैं, मतलब एक लड़की की।
प्रतिभा नाम है उसका। नाम से ही प्रतीत होता है बुद्धि। प्रतिभा बिहार के एक छोटे से गाँव में रहती है। बचपन से ही वह पढ़ाई लिखाई में बहुत तेज़ थी। जब भी कही कोई कार्यक्रम होता तो वो भाग लेने पहुँच जाती। दौड़ में भी काफी अच्छी थी। उसे हर चीज़ आती थी। सिलाई-बुनाई, खाना बनाना और पढ़ाई-लिखाई - सब में वह मस्त थी।
इंसान के पास जब सब कुछ हो और एक चीज़ गुम हो जाती है तो वह कहीं न कहीं हमें रोक देती है। प्रतिभा समाज में छोटी जानेवाली जाति की थी। वह एक ऐसे समाज से थी जहाँ लोगों को लड़की का कहीं आना-जाना ज्यादा पसंद नहीं था। उसके पिता मज़दूर थे। भाई बाहर में रहता था। प्रतिभा की माँ की तबियत खराब रहती थी। उनको दमा की बीमारी थी। उनके इलाज में काफी खर्च हो जाता था। भाई और पिता कैसे भी कर के इलाज और प्रतिभा की पढ़ाई-लिखाई का खर्च उठा लेते थे। प्रतिभा का सपना था कि वो पढ़-लिख कर आईएएस बने और अपने घर की तंगी को दूर करे। वो कॉलेज में पढ़ती थी और साथ में आईएस की अपनी तैयारी भी करती थी। घर के कामों से भी उसको छुट्टी नहीं थी।
बस सब कुछ ठीक ही चल रहां था कि कोरोना का काला साया प्रतिभा की जिंदगी को अपने रंग में घोलने लगा। प्रतिभा की प्रतिभा को भी उसने काला करना शुरू कर दिया। कोरोना और लॉकडाउन ने उसके भविष्य को भी लॉक कर दिया।
कैसे? हुआ यूँ कि प्रतिभा को उसकी पढ़ाई के लिए पैसे भाई और पिता देते थे। घर भी उनकी बदौलत चलता था। उसी में कोरोना के कारण पूरे देश में लॉकडाउन हो गया। सबका काम बंद हो गया तो प्रतिभा का भाई भी घर वापस आ गया। घर में तंगी हो गई। कुछ दिन ठीक से सब रहे। फिर पैसों को लेकर समस्या होने लगी। काम न होने के कारण सब चिंतित हो गए थे। सब बहुत डर गए। अब हम कैसे क्या करेंगे ? क्या होगा ? हमें अपनी बेटी की शादी भी करनी है। पर प्रतिभा ने अभी शादी के बारे में नहीं सोचा था।
जैसा कि अक्सर होता है बिना प्रतिभा को बताए उसके पिता ने उसकी शादी करने का सोच लिया। लॉकडाउन के कारण डर के मारे शादी को लेकर सब थोड़ा ज्यादा ही चिंतित हो गए। उसके माँ और पिता आपस में बात करते थे कि उनके पास ज्यादा जमा पैसा भी नहीं है, और अब कमाई का भी कोई स्रोत नहीं दिख रहा है। बेटा भी अभी वापस नहीं जा सकता है। क्या होगा ? न जाने ये सब कब ठीक होगा?
घर में प्रतिभा की शादी का दबाव बढ़ता गया। पर वह इन सबसे अभी तक अनजान थी। वह अपने काम और पढ़ाई में दिन-रात व्यस्त रहती थी। उसको इन बातों की खबर नहीं थी कि उसकी शादी के बारे में विचार किया जा रहा है। बस उसको लग रहा था कि घर में कमाई न होने के कारण सब परेशान हैं। अब उसके पिता ने लड़के का भी पता लगाना शुरू कर दिया था। वो अपनी बहन को कहते कि प्रतिभा 22 वर्ष की हो गई है। अब हमारी कमाई भी नहीं है और जो पैसे हमने उसकी शादी के लिए जमा किया था वो अब लॉकडाउन के कारण घर में खर्च होने लगे हैं। प्रतिभा की पढ़ाई का खर्च उठा पाना भी अब मुश्किल है। इससे अच्छा है कि हम उसकी शादी कर देते हैं। तब से प्रतिभा की बुआ भी लड़का देखने लगी।
और एक दिन इसी लॉकडाउन में प्रतिभा को देखने लड़केवाले आ जाते हैं। वो पास के ही थे, इसलिए आने में कोई दिक्कत नहीं हुई। प्रतिभा की माँ प्रतिभा को तैयार होने को कहती है।
प्रतिभा ने पूछा - “क्यूँ ? क्या डॉक्टर के पास जाना है ?”
माँ बोली - “नहीं, तुम्हें लड़केवाले देखने आ रहे हैं।”
प्रतिभा दो मिनट के लिए तो बिल्कुल शांत हो जाती है। फिर माँ से बोली - “ये क्या बोल रही हो? मुझे अभी शादी नहीं करना है। मुझे पढ़ना है।”
माँ ने समझाने की कोशिश की - “देखो बेटा, समय अच्छा नहीं है और न ही घर की स्थिति अच्छी है,और बाकी तो तुम्हें पता ही है। इसलिए जल्दी तैयार होकर आ जाओ।”
प्रतिभा चिल्लाई - “मैं तैयार नहीं हो रही हूँ। समझ गईं आप ?”
माँ ने डाँट दिया - “मुँह न चलाओ ज्यादा। हाथ पैर चलाओ जल्दी जल्दी और तैयार हो जाओ।”
प्रतिभा बोली – “माँ, आप क्यूँ नहीं समझती हो ? माँ, मुझे पढना है।”
माँ ने साफ़ कहा - “उसके लिए पैसे होने चाहिए जो तेरे भाई बापू के पास नहीं हैं। देखो जो होता है अच्छे के लिए होता है और ऊपर से यह बीमारी! इस महामारी में क्या होगा? लॉकडाउन समझ नहीं आ रहा है।”
माँ-बेटी दोनों के बीच बहस हो जाती है। “आपको समझाने से कोई फायदा ही नहीं है।” यह कहते हुए प्रतिभा अपने पिता के पास जाती है। उनसे बोली – “पिताजी, मुझे अभी पढ़ाई करनी है। मैं अभी शादी करना नहीं चाहती हूँ। आप तो जानते हैं कि मुझे पढ़ लिख कर आईएएस बनना है। आप मेरी बातों को समझने की कोशिश कीजिए न। अगर पैसों की बात है तो मै काम करुँगी, किसी तरह मै अपना खर्च निकाल लूँगी। मैं अभी अपने दोस्तों से बात करती हूँ। शायद कोई काम मिल जाये, घर का खर्च भी मैं उठा लूँगी।”
वह बोलती रही, पर उसके पिता एक नहीं सुनते हैं। कहते हैं – “लड़केवाले आते ही होंगे। जल्दी तैयार हो जाओ। कम से कम हमारी इज्जत रख लो।”
फिर लड़केवाले को प्रतिभा पसंद आ जाती है। वो काफी परेशान थी। लॉकडाउन के कारण वो कहीं जा भी नहीं सकती थी। पूरी तरह समय के हाथों मजबूर थी। उसने अपने सारे रिश्तेदरों से बात की, लेकिन उसको सिर्फ निराशा ही हाथ लगती है। कोई कहता है कि “लॉकडाउन में अभी कम खर्च में शादी-ब्याह हो जाएगा तो कोई कहता है कि लड़की की उम्र भी हो गई है”।
अपने माँ और पिताजी को प्रतिभा मना करती रही, लेकिन वे नहीं माने। तब प्रतिभा ने कहा – ”आपलोग मुझे कुछ समय दे दीजिए। लॉकडाउन के बाद मै शादी कर लूँगी।”
अब उसके मन का कोई सुनने को तैयार ही नहीं था। अंत में हारकर वो शादी कर लेती है। लॉकडाउन के कारण ज्यादा लोग नहीं आए और घर के पासवाले मंदिर में ही शादी करवा दी गई । लड़केवाले की तरफ से सिर्फ उसके पिता, भाई, चाचा और 10-12 लोग ही आए, और साधारण तरीके से विवाह हो जाता है।
इस महामारी ने जाने कितनों के सपनों को सपना ही रहने दिया है। कोरोना का काला साया लोगों की जिंदगी पर पड़ गया है। अब प्रतिभा की प्रतिभा घर तक ही सिमट कर रह गई। आसमान छूने का उसका सपना चहारदीवारी में ही बंद होकर रह गया। उसके भविष्य पर ताला लग गया।

Every person has a story and every story is different. Every story has a lesson and a struggle. This story is of a girl from a small village in Bihar. Her name was Pratibha and like the meaning of her name,, she was very intelligent and excellent in her studies. She was an all-rounder and used to participate in a lot of extra-curricular activities. She would ace in running and also knew stitching and cooking. Pratibha was from a lower- caste. It was not considered good for girls from her community to go out. Her family wasn’t financially too well. Her father was a labourer. Her brother used to work away from home. Her mother had asthma and was mostly unwell. Her father and brother would barely manage her mother’s medical bills and her education. Pratibha wanted to be an IAS officer. For this she was preparing for IAS,while pursuing her graduation. She managed all this while completing the house chores.
Everything was normal until COVID-19 happened. Pratibha would have never expected what could happen with her during the lockdown. There were financial problems at home. Her brother had to come back home because of no work. In the beginning, things were smooth but as the lockdown continued and there was no sign of work, problems escalated. There were a lot of fights at home because of depleting resources. Her parents then started thinking about marrying her off. She was not involved in the decision and she didn’t even know about it until the boy’s family came home to see her.
Her parents were concerned about their losing savings. They were now using the money they had saved up for Pratibha’s marriage. Pratibha was blissfully unaware of all this. She knew there were financial problems at home and everyone was worried about it. She didn’t know there was a plan to get her married. Her father had started looking for a potential groom for his daughter and also involved his sister in it. He gave the reason that because of the lockdown, it is difficult to finance Pratibha’s education and also that Pratibha has reached the age of 22 which is appropriate for marriage according to them.
The day the boy’s family had to come to see Pratibha, her mother asks her to get ready. Unaware, Pratibha asks if it is for going to the doctor. To her sheer surprise, her mother shares the news with her. Pratibha could not believe it and told her mother that she wanted to study. She cannot get married now, she has a dream and she wants to achieve it. Her mother tries to tell her that these are tough times for the family, and they can no longer support her education. She said, “to study you need money and your family doesn’t have it. Maybe things happen for a reason and it will be good for you if you get married”.
Pratibha then tries to reason with her father and says, “I want to study further, if it is about money, I am ready to take up a job and pay for my expenses''. Her father paid no heed to her and asked her to get ready for the boy's family. The boy’s family also liked her at first glance and the marriage preparations began. She tried to approach her relatives for help but everybody said that getting married during the lockdown is a much cheaper alternative. Pratibha tried multiple times but her parents did not agree to stop her marriage. She tried to ask for more time but was denied even that. She then had to get married in the nearby temple. She had an ordinary wedding with very few people.
Like Pratibha, a lot of girls got married during the lockdown. Their dreams like Pratibhas are now left unfulfilled and shattered. Their potential remains limited to the four-walls of their in-laws house.
