Our rights and their use - हमारे अधिकार और उनका उपयोग
मेरे अधिकारों के बारे में मुझे उस दिन पता चला जिस दिन हमारी पूरी टीम की वर्कशॉप हुई थी | यह वर्कशॉप साउथ एशियन वोमेन्स फंड की अनिषा चुघ ने ली । उन्होने हमें बताया की हमारे अधिकार हमारे है उन्हें हमसे कोई नहीं छीन सकता | हमें यह भी बताया कि कुछ अधिकार हम लेकर पैदा होते हैं | हमें हमारे अधिकार जन्म के साथ ही मिल जाते है और उनका सही उपयोग भी हमें करना आना चाहिए | यह भी ध्यान में रखना ज़रूरी है कि हमारे ऊपर कोई जबरदस्ती अपने अधिकार नहीं चला सकता | इस वर्कशॉप के द्वारा मैने यह जाना कि हमें हमारे अधिकारों के प्रति जागरूक होना बहुत ज़रूरी है|
यदि हमें कोई हमारा अधिकार नहीं दे रहा, तो चाहे वह परिवार का कोई सदस्य हो या कोई बाहर का व्यक्ति, किसी को भी यह हक नहीं कि वो हमारे अधिकार हम से छीने । यदि हमारे अधिकारों का उल्लंघन हो तो हम कानून की मदद से अपना अधिकार प्राप्त कर सकते है । अनीशा ने हमें बहुत अच्छी तरीके से और बहुत गहराई से हमारे अधिकारों के बारे में हमें जानकारी दी । मुझे यह सब बातें जानकर बहुत अच्छा लगा | साथ में बहुत ख़ुशी भी हुई यह जानकर कि एक औरत होने के नाते मेरे कितने सारे क़ानून और सरकार द्वारा दिए गये अधिकार हैं |
हम अपना हक़ पाने के लिए कभी ना कभी , किसी ना किसी प्रकार से लड़ते है, पर हमें पता नहीं होता कि वो हमारा जन्म सिद्ध अधिकार है | कभी ऐसा भी होता है कि कुछ अधिकारों के बारे में हमें पता होता है पर हम फिर भी उनका इस्तेमाल नहीं करते है और छोटी- छोटी चीज़े करने के लिए माता,पिता की आज्ञा लेनी पड़ती है । जैसे कि “मुझे अपने बाल कटवाने है” और वह मेरा हक़ है ,लेकिन मेरी माँ कहती है कि तुम वही करोगी जो मैं कहूँगी | और यदि में अपने बाल छोटे कटवाना चाहूँ तो इस निर्णय पर सिर्फ़ मेरा अधिकार है | कई बार ऐसी छोटी बड़ी घटनायें हमरे साथ घटती है और हमारे अधिकारों का उल्लंघन होता है और हम चुपचाप इसमे शामिल भी हो जाते हैं |
यह सब मुझे वर्कशॉप के बाद पता चला | ऐसा लगा जैसे मैं नींद से जाग गयी हूँ | हमारे समाज के हर हिस्से के लोगों को ना सिर्फ़ अपने अधिकारों के बारे में मालूम होना चाहिए बल्कि यदि किसी और के अधिकारों का उल्लंघन या दुरुपयोग हो रहा हो तो हमें उसके खिलाफ़ आवाज़ भी उठानी चाहिए | यह एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी है और मुझे अब खुद पर विश्वास है की यदि मेरे निजी जीवन में किसी प्रकार से मेरे अधिकारो का उल्लंघन हुआ तो मैं उससे लड़ूँगी और कोशिश करुँगी की मैं अपने माता पिता को भी समझा सकूँ |
I learned about my rights when I attended a workshop with the entire team of FAT. This workshop was conducted by Ms. Anisha Chugh of South Asian Women’s Fund. She taught us that our rights are our own and that no one is allowed to take them away from us under any circumstances. There are some rights that we are born with and it is important that we learn what they are and how well we utilize them. It is also important to remember that no one can forcibly take our rights away. Through this workshop, I learned that it is important to be aware about one’s own rights that one is entitled to.
If someone is violating our rights, whether a family member or someone from outside our home, no one has a right to do the same and the violator is punishable under the law. Anisha told us about our rights in a very detailed and in-depth manner. I felt very nice learning about my rights—as a citizen and as a woman—that the law and the State bestows upon us.
We often have to fight in some way or the other to claim what is rightfully ours. Sometimes, we ourselves aren’t aware that there are some things that is our birthright. No one tells us and neither do we question any injustice that we see. For every small thing, we ask our parents. For instance, I wish to get my hair cut but my parents always scold me saying that I am not “allowed” to do so. But isn’t it my choice and my right to keep my hair as long as I want? This is a personal decision which only I have the right to make as it concerns my body (and no one else’s). There are so many such incidents that take place in our daily lives and we silently become a part of the violation of our own rights.
I learned all this and more from this workshop. It felt like I just awoke from a deep slumber. I feel that every section of our society should be aware of his/her rights. Not only should we be aware but also raise our voices against any violation that we see. Knowing about our basic human rights is an extremely important exercise (that, fortunately, I was a part of) and I am confident that I will fight any cases of violation of my rights. I will also strive to negotiate with my parents and explain to them what our rights mean and what they entail.
